“The ecological catastrophe begins rehearsing in the sixties”, writes Allen Ginsberg in 1970; and for more than half a century, political systems are unwilling to fight that development. 45 minutes with sounds of protest – uttered by Appleblim, Diane Di Prima, Leslie Winer, Piero Umiliani, and others.

5. Sound Tells

Every now and then the world turns into a sound installation, only waiting to get noticed. When reel-to-reels became portable and affordable during the 1960s, field recordists, musicians and artists began to open up their ears – on the hunt for special sounds.

Sounds Central

From the futurists to hyperdub, musical ideas have constantly evolved. Sounds Central explores this vast area of experiments with audio essays, series, and thematic mixes.

The selection doesn’t strive to be canonical, it rather comes from being a DJ who dislikes clichés and genres, but is fond of moving on the time line.

Listening with Misophonia

Early in 2021, I learned that I’m suffering from misophonia, a disorder that typically begins in childhood and that’s characterized by painful reactions towards certain sounds.

Knowing about my misophonia, however, I’m able to react more relaxed in some trigger situations. This ability could be due to having internalized forms of conscious listening as propagated by composers like Pauline Oliveros and R. Murray Schafer.

A grant from Berlin based Musikfonds e.V. enabled me to conceive a workshop in order to find out whether being familiar with such listening modes could also be helpful for others affected by misophonia.

Read more about this in the Misophonia section.
