Ambient Channel (3): Misty

Paying homage to flying machines and next generation’s minimalism, singing in an invented language that’s both mysterious and familiar, and a special kind of rain. 43-minute mix with pieces by Anna Homler and Steve Moshier, Ennio Morricone, Harold Budd, The Human League and others – made between 1972 and 2011.

Cosey Fanni Tutti – Threnody

The minimalist, warm, dreamlike and intimate track unfolds like an emotional landscape. It is based on an abstract drawing of the same name that Delia Derbyshire’s artist friend Andy Christian sent to industrial music icon Cosey Fanni Tutti. He created it during an improvised evening when Derbyshire intoned and sang softly while looking at his drawings. (2025, Conspiracy International)

Monolake – Anamorph Iris

With a focus on sound design and soundscapes, Berlin-based producer Monolake, alias Robert Henke, raises the question of an analogy between the bird-like dinosaur Archaeopteryx and advanced digital technology. (2020, Monolake/Imbalance Computer Music)

Adelbert von Deyen – Per Aspera Ad Astra – Part 1: Mental Voyage (Bureau B edit)

With cosmic and mysterious sounds, Adelbert von Deyen creates a calm, hypnotic trance for the overture of the 25-minute melancholic journey Per Aspera Ad Astra. The debut album by the Berlin-based musician was intended as a tribute to electronic music advocate Klaus Schulze, as evidenced by the clear reference to his album Cyborg on the cover. (1978, Sky Records / RE: 2025, Bureau B)

Joel Vandroogenbroeck – Group Meditation

Continuous atmospheric sounds for enigmatic landscapes, metaphysical situations and prehistorical periods – these are the notes to Joel Vandroogenbroeck’s album with meditations. The Belgian multi-instrumentalist recorded it with complete creative control as part of a series with ambient and mood music for film and television documentaries in the late 1970s and early 1980s. (1980, Coloursound Library / RE: 2014, Aguirre Records)

Pan American & Kramer – Blind To The Last Of Its Kind

A sublime sonic exploration into deep liquid space by two pioneers of ambient music who spontaneously compose their always moving environments. (2025, Shimmy Disc)

Silver Apples & Makoto Kawabata – Mirage

Cross-generational collaboration between two innovators of psychedelia. In the Sixties, Simeon Coxe and his band Silver Apples brought electronic music techniques outside the academic world, using a synthesiser he developed himself. Makoto Kawabata is the leader of Acid Mothers Temple, a band with an ever-changing line-up that has been at the forefront of psychedelic rock since 1995. Here, Simeon’s keyboard and Makoto’s drone guitar feedback orchestrate an ambient poetry reading. (2009, Important Records)

Gas – Untitled

After pushing forward the electronic sound of Cologne as part of a network of likeminded musicians, labels and designers in the early days of German techno culture, the time has come in 1996 for Wolfgang Voigt to adopt a new moniker. With Gas, he focused on a particular type of atmospheric minimalism. (1996, Mille Plateaux)
