#42: Peder Mannerfelt – Bapere Dance

The Belgian Congo Records is a series of traditional music recordings from the 1930s – a time when a brutal colonial regime was more interested in the country’s natural resources than its culture. When Swedish techno producer Peder Mannerfelt discovered the songs with their manic, driving rhythms in 2015, he decided to reinterpret them. To do so, he completely recreated the pieces on a synthesiser – including the vocals and the crackling of the record.
